Life Is a Spiritual Struggle
This reading was probably my favorite because it reminds me of my brothers. They teach students who are emotionally disturbed and they have to make sure they don't have weapons in their bags and where they teach isn't that nice of a place. While I was reading this I saw a lot of qualities of my brothers. They both work out not like the teacher in the story, but they go to they gym everyday after work. Something else that made me think of them is because their students ask them why they don't do something else. I can't answer for my brothers but I think they stick to teaching because they enjoy what they do no matter what their circumstances are in the classroom. They are helping students who can barely read and they teach kids who just don't care about their schooling, but my brothers don't give up on them and their success. They have face battles as well on a daily basis.
Admittance to a Better Life
When I read this I thought Michael Oatman was such an inspiration beacause with his story he can inspire others who were like him to go to school and get an education and make something of themselves. To me this shows something about being educated. He realized theres was nothing good in his life and he turned it around for the better. There are many kids on the street who don't know what to do get out of it and if they hear Michael Oatman's story this may help them.
This I Believe
I thought this was another great story to show what being educated is about. Nona who can't really read is still very intelligent. She is very good at math. She also made something of herself working in a fabric factory. She's teaching her grandchildren about what life is about. Without having those stories we wouldn't know as much about life. I hear stories from my grandmother and my parents and they have a major influence on how I want my life to be like in the future.
